Swift Technique Opening for Keri Hilson @ Temple University

"One of my favorite things about a Swift Tech show is that they can party all night, or at least as long as a venue will let them. They genuinely want to be on stage and they have more fun on stage than any band I’ve seen before. Get out to see them as soon as you can and you can join in on the party." - Philadelphia Music Critic, Kevin Kennedy. Review of Swift Technique's April 20th performance in Philly

From the Road: 3.13.11, En Route to NYC

I've had the opportunity to see two of the leading instrumental bands on the circuit recently in New York City and Philadelphia.

On February 23rd, I was fortunate to see Galactic at Philadelphia's Trocadero Theatre. The show featured some fiery collaborations with Corey Henry from Rebirth Brass Band and Cyrus Neville. I initially found out about the show through the opening band, High & Mighty Brass Band - check these guys out!

On March 10th, Soulive continued a TWO WEEK long run at Brookyn Bowl, featuring a different, all-star, lineup every night. I was able to see the Sly & the Family Stone Tribute Night with Karl Denson, Ivan Neville, ?uestlove, The Shady Horns and other guests. Needless to say, it was incredibly inspiring to see this group of musicians together along with a packed house at one of NYC's finest venues. The night concluded with a 2 hour DJ set by ?uestlove.

Along with this, I have recently been discovering a serious amount of old Funk bands through the Montreal based internet program - WEFunk. With this mix of modern collaborations and respect for the pioneers, I think that I've been feeling the musical pendulum swinging back towards REAL MUSIC.

Here's ?uestlove on drums w/ the Royal Family Recording crew at Brooklyn Bowl on March 10th and an old track I recently discovered through WEFunk:

Sullivan Hall, New York City - 02.25.2011

Swift Technique is settling in after two MONUMENTAL instrumental shows in Philadelphia and Princeton, New Jersey this week.

The week kicked off with Kuf Knotz's Boombox Collective at the World Cafe Live in West Philly. Swift was joined by LP Stiles, Ras Arcane, live painters and a slew of old family and friends. Swift closed out the night with a powerhouse hour and a half instrumental set.

The following night saw Swift Technique make their first appearance at Princeton University at the Terrace F. Club. Needless to say, this crowd brought the energy! A seriously hospitable group of people at the Terrace was complemented by an audience that could not fake the funk. The show was recorded through the soundboard and will be made available through the Terrace F. Club's website in the coming week.
